A study has been conducted by doctors at Max Healthcare, also presented by Dr Pradeep Chowbey, the chief researcher and bariatric surgeon at the ongoing XVII World Congress of International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). The weight loss related study is accepted forpublication at the Obesity Journal this year.
It has shown that bariatric surgery, which is mainly done for weight loss, hasresulted in reversing diabetes in obese patients.
The study has looked at 689 patients before and after their bariatric surgery. 82% of them reported to have completely reversed diabetes.
Doctors claim the surgery also normalises blood sugar, besides bringing the blood pressure, cholesterol and sleep apnea under control.
"The hormones incretins, which increase after the surgery, stimulate the pancreas to make more insulin. This insulin help bring type 2 diabetes under control," said Dr Chowbey.
Note : According to doctors, this surgery for works best for cases of recent diabetics's reversals, because of the non prolonged metabolic disease.
